American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® communities provide free lodging for people with cancer who must travel when treatment is far from home. Our Hope Lodge volunteers support guests by helping with daily operations such as preparing meals, providing entertainment, planning special events and activities, and improving the facility and grounds. At some locations, volunteers help drive patients to and from treatment.
There are more than 30 Hope Lodge communities in the US, located in select cities in certain states.
Volunteers help make Hope Lodge communities a true home away from home. They can choose from a variety of opportunities and activities that best fit their skills and interests. You can volunteer for a single day or become a longer-term volunteer, and you can volunteer by yourself or with a group. You can choose to work directly with Hope Lodge guests or work behind the scenes in other areas. Join us and help brighten the day of people facing cancer and their caregivers!
Volunteers may help with daily Hope Lodge operations on an ongoing basis – such as assisting with guest check-in and improving the facility and grounds. Volunteers may also serve in periodic or one-time opportunities, either as an individual or as part of group activities. These activities can include making or serving prepared meals, providing entertainment such as hosting a game night or karaoke, and more. Additionally, some locations need volunteers to drive guests to and from treatment at nearby health systems.
Volunteers must be dependable and should be comfortable interacting with others.
For select Hope Lodge locations that have volunteer driver opportunities, volunteers must meet current age criteria, have a valid driver’s license issued by the state where they will perform their driving duties or in the state where they reside, provide proof of automobile insurance, pass a background and motor vehicle records check, and complete required volunteer training.
Some volunteer roles may have additional requirements, including a background check and online training.
